Gallery Espresso, Savannah, GA
234 Bull Street, Savannah, GA 31401
There are a few MUST SEE places to visit while you're in Savannah and, as far as I'm concerned, Chippewa Square is one of them. Why?
Chippewa is where they filmed the world famous bench scenes in Forrest Gump.
Be warned, the world-famous bench is no longer there; it's sitting in the Savannah History Museum. However, this didn't stop us from going to Chippewa to reimagine it in our own minds.
The next best thing about Chippewa Square; Gallery Espresso.
The favorite coffee house of Savannah locals; come here for a simple brew to accompany your afternoon of coffee shop office. Or bring a book and sink into an old sofa chair. You'll be in good company.
This place is truly THE local favorite hang out spot. Just walk across from Chippewa Square, you'd think this it would be swarmed by tourists, but on this early Sunday afternoon it was mostly local folks just trying to get some work done.
The scene of these three ladies (above) is persistent throughout the coffee house; most folks are here to stay. Computers are out. Power cords are plugged in. Or, a book is in hand. Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) keeps this post bristling with young professionals and seasoned professors. Gallery Espresso is still, however, immensely aware of its visitor base. A few of the four-person tables are marked to be 'computer free' places to sit.
My beverage? You got it. Iced coffee.
This wouldn't necessarily be a place I'd come for a big brunch; but they've still got a food menu and some on-the-go baked options. I took my iced coffee for a sit in Chippewa. What impressed me most about the coffee was the affordability.
My iced coffee was only two bucks! No wonder this place is loved by college students!
If you're interested in bringing back some coffee from their historic location; they've got a range of gourmet beans. If you're into tea, there's a great selection of that too!
I've got to mention their eclectic range of sofa chairs.
They're fantastic. Makes an antique/vintage lover a tad jealous.
Shall we discuss the basis of the name? The art gallery.
The shop plays host to much-loved artists; Savannah is the place for art and Gallery Espresso is here to support it. Just take a walk around to see some the features.
